Modern smartphones usually use headsets with four conductor points (e.g. rings that you see on a plug). In most cases, two points are used for audio output (stereo), one for the microphone, and one for signalling (e.g. remote control). However, these points are not always used in the same way, or in the same order, by all smartphone manufacturers.

Apple uses a non-standard microphone and control signalling method. HTC uses AHJ connectors. Nokia and Samsung uses both AHJ and OMTP connectors.

Plugging incorrect headset (conductor points) will result in the audio-out being inaudible or very quiet. Incorrect conductor points may also lead to inaudible or very quiet microphone, and loss of remote controls (e.g. answer/end call, or play/pause music).

One possible solution is to purchase third party converters to switch between the different types of headset conductor points, but these add extra bulk and may not work reliably with remote control functionality.

Like most headphone manfucturers, our Arion Legacy headphones are produced using inline microphone cable with a "dual version" conductor point that works relatively well with both Apple and Samsung, but may not work reliably with all non-Apple devices. There is not a universal conductor that works for all smartphone brands and model.

If you need an inline microphone cable with conductor points designed for non-Apple devices, please create a new ticket and our staff will do their best to identify and locate the cable specific to your smartphone brand and model.
